Mary’s dad is critically ill. Hospice says he is in a “self-induced” coma. He is a man of strong faith – and has no doubts where he is going. Seems strange he has been in my life as long as I had my own father.

I have gotten back into reading Max Lucado’s books – specifically “He Still Moves Stones” and “Applause from Heaven” -his writing is most refreshing and encouraging. In fact, I haven’t anything by him that I haven’t enjoyed. You might want to try a book or two.

I have just read the best little book. “Knowing Aslan” (An encounter with the Lion of Narnia) by Thomas Williams – just an absolutely exciting and uplifting 57 pages. I told a group if they could read this biook, and not end smiling from ear to ear – they needed to check their pulse.s

What a week – going from celebrating Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday to Good Friday to the Resurrection – how great is God’s love for us! Even giving up his son on our behalf. How much do we love God in return?

If you know me, you know I am not a sportsmminded person…however, a friend who has season Michigan tickets, took me to a game last night….the entertaining that goes on during the game is fascinating…of course it is no doubt to allow time for commercials for the broadcast…but intereesting nevertheless. It was just plain fun. Maybe there is something to this sports thing…

Cruise

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful Caribbean Cruise – a gift from our son and daughter-in-law and grandchiuldren for our 40th anniversary. They went with us – and we really enjoyed the time together. It was in Cozumel – which did make it a “bit” harder to come home. But then – home is good, too.

We enjoyed a brief patriotic observance on day at the beginning of worship – good to be reminded of the principles on which this nation was founded. And – we recognized the veterans – who were present – for the freedoms we enjoy!

We will begin our time Sunday (July 5th) with a brief patriotic observance. We will honor the vterans who are present, with an emphasis on giving God thanksgiving for freedom.
